Nigerians Celebrate People With Questionable Wealth

During the 65th Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) which held in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari said public servants and many in the private sectors who have questionable wealth are celebrated with alumni recognitions, honourary degrees, chieftaincy titles and sometimes higher religious titles in the country.

The President who was represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said Nigerians are no longer concerned about the process of attaining success because the end justifies the means for them.

The President also said cheating in examination and attainment of fake certificates among Nigerians had become a normal thing because of collapse of values in the society.

Such collapse in value, he explained, makes it difficult for policy makers to effect change in the society.

He said: “Today the attainment of wealth, power or educational influence is the mark of success which is not necessarily a bad thing except we are no longer concerned with the process of attaining success. “The end it appears today justifies the means which explains why cheating in exams and fake certificates simply do not generate the sort of outrage that such conduct would have generated years ago. “Public servants and many in the private sectors who have unexplanable wealth are celebrated in one form or the other with alumni recognitions, honourary degrees, chieftaincy titles and even higher religious titles. “Often, cheating is with the collusion of parents and teachers. This only reflects the failure of values in our larger society.”

Pastor Arrested For Attempting To Bomb A Church In Edo

The heart of man is indeed wicked! A Pastor identified as Abel Eku, who served the Christ Chosen Church of God for 25 years, was recently arrested for attempting to bomb a church. He allegedly planted explosives at the headquarters of Christ Chosen Church of God on January 22, a day scheduled for the church's international conference.

The Pastor who was arrested after the bomb was detected and detonated by security operatives of the Edo State Police command, confessed to committing the crime. He further disclosed that he manufactured and planted the bombs, as a way of revenging his bitter dismissal from the church over marital issues.

The 57-year-old Pastor further told newsmen, that he had a rethink and called the church's officials telling them about the location of the bomb, which he alleged wasn't meant to kill but to scare his church members and elders.

“I am 57 years old. I had marital issues with my wife. We came to the church to resolve it and it was not resolved. It led to my dismissal. I was very bitter about the dismissal. I don’t have the intention of killing people. My action is very bad.”

On how he was made a pastor in the church, Pastor Abel said his parents offered him to the church as a first fruit because of inability to have children. “I was given to the church as a first issue.
My parents were married for many years without any issue, so they vowed at the alter that any first child God gave to them would be given to the church. That was how they gave me to the church" he said.
